Cockers in Need of Cataract Surgery

Did you know dogs could develop cataracts just like humans? The lens of the eye becomes very cloudy and finally you just can't see out of it. Think about having a dirty contact lens in your eye - it's so frustrating!! As a Cocker Spaniel Rescue, we are seeing more young cockers who have cataracts, which can be corrected with surgery - but it isn't inexpensive.
The initial visit to the Veterinary Ophthalmologist is $138. The second visit to determine if the cataracts are operable is $508. The surgery to remove a cataract from one eye is approximately $1,850. Bilateral cataract surgery is $2,550. Then the cocker has 3-4 follow-up visits at $68 each. The eyedrops that are imperative after surgery are approximately $100-$150 per month for 2-3 months depending on the surgery. So, as you can see, a rescue organization can't afford to have cataract surgery done on a deserving cocker unless we have donated funds in hand. We have set up a general cataract Chipin fund to help all cockers needing cataract surgery. If you'd like to help a certain cocker, we also have chipins on each of their personal pages. Be a DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue partner and let's give these furkids a new reason to enjoy life. SIGHT, what a beautiful gift! |
