Sherman

Organized by DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue

Sad News
Sherman went in for his heart surgery on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Shortly after being anesthetized, his little heart stopped beating and his lungs filled with blood. The cardiac surgeons tried for over 20 minutes to save him, but could not. When the surgeon spoke to our volunteers, he couldn't hold back the emotion of losing Sherman. Sherman had just stolen the hearts of all who met him. The cardiologist could not explain why this happened and was shocked that this occurred.

We are all very sad today for the loss of Sherman. He was the sweetest cocker ever.

We will still have his medical bills so any donation would be appreciated. I'm sorry he won't be able to give you cocker kisses for your donation. Rest in peace, sweet Sherman.
Sherman has a very RARE condition
Sherman had his color ultrasound at Texas A&M today, Wednesday January 25. The cardiologist discovered he has a very, very rare condition called "Cor Triatriatum Dexter". That means he has an extra chamber in the upper chamber of his heart causing the blood not to flow freely. It has a little tiny opening in the heart. The cardiologist said he has only seen this condition four, maybe five times in his career.

Friday, January 27, Sherman will have a CT scan after dye is put in his system and they will be able to see exactly where the cardiologist needs to repair the heart. They will also check his liver at the same time to make sure he doesn't have a liver shunt. Surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday, February 1. Because this is a very rare condition, we are hoping to receive some grants from the cardiology department at A&M, but we don't know when or how much.

Assuming no additional problems are discovered on Friday by the CT scan, Sherman has an excellent prognosis for a long and healthy life.

Will you help us give Sherman that long and healthy life? Chip In and be a part of this rewarding experience!
Sherman
Sherman is the sweetest boy, giving cocker kisses and being so friendly even at the shelter. He has a near perfect cocker head, face, eyes and a show length tail. He didn't seem to have any issues and was thought to be a quick adoption given his personality. He was taken to one of our great vet partners and there they found some odd levels in his blood work tests. His tummy soon started to bloat and we were all concerned. But you'd never know there was anything wrong with him! He is young and super sweet and as the vets were listening to his heart and trying to examine him, he kept giving them kisses. He's just a great dog. Our vets and specialists can't exactly determine what's going on with him. The specialist says it could be one of several RARE conditions and we need to take him to Texas A&M. We've made an appointment for him to see Dr. McDonald at A&M's renowned vet school for Wednesday, January, 25. He'll do a special ultrasound on Sherman. Until then, we really don't know what we are dealing with, or what the cost will be.

The other option is just to leave him be...let him live the way he is for as long as he can and then put him to sleep. He is not adoptable in this condition.

Sherman is young and has such a sweet personality and spirit. He is worth saving!! The estimate we have received for the ultrasound and possible surgery is around $3,500. Plus, DFWCSR has already spent about $1,000 with vets and specialists just getting to this point.

Would you help us save Sherman? Any donation amount is appreciated. We need to raise the money quickly so we can help him. He'll thank you with a big slurpy, cocker kiss!!
